YELLOW BOX

Significance of tree

This big dead Yellow Box stands sentinel atop Mt Rogers—a landmark for many, like me, who grew up in Fraser and neighbouring suburbs of North-West Canberra. Its smooth grey trunk is home to bees and its surrounding boulders signal a stopping place. My family has spent many happy hours beneath and around this tree, looking out across a grassy slope to the distant Brindabellas. It’s our favourite spot to watch the sunset, within walking distance of home and together we’ve shared some glorious ones with our dogs Skipper and Jazz. (The leaves and bark are from the neighbouring Yellow Box, also very big.)
